Our aim in making this online shop available is to sell good quality art materials and high quality prints and sculptures from the Heaton Cooper artists. In art materials, we want you to have plenty of informed choice. All too often art materials are offered in ranges limited to one or two 'big brand name' suppliers and while favourable deals with big name manufacturers may enable retailers to discount certain lines, customer choice is often thereby restricted.
We have no such problems. Whilst we offer the fine products from the 'big names', we ask no favours of any suppliers and we scour the market for innovative and unusual items which we hope will make your art more pleasurable, interesting and rewarding. Other than permission to use a few catalogue images, no help or sponsorship has been sought or given towards the cost of developing this web site and no manufacturer has deliberately been given any positional or other advantage.
The name of Heaton Cooper has been synonymous with art in the Lake District for over 100 years. Drawing on the experience handed down from previous generations of the family, we know and understand the requirements of artists for quality materials which work well. We have been trading in fine art in Grasmere since 1938, and before that in Coniston and Ambleside since 1895. We have been trading on the internet since 1997.
Using the Shop
Best page layouts will be achieved using a screen setting of 1024x768 or larger.
Colours - computer technology for all its advances has not yet devised a foolproof standardised method of accurate colour and contrast rendering across the internet. Not only will different software render colours differently, but so will the display settings of individual computers. We can therefore only claim that our images represented good colour accuracy when processed in our system.
Unlisted Materials or Products
This website includes our entire current range of art materials. At present we regret we are unable to accept orders for small quantities of materials which are not listed here. If you would like to suggest items which you think we should stock, please email us.
CREATING AN ACCOUNT
You can order from our website without creating an account. However, creating an account is simple and has benefits for you. We will be able to retain your name and address details, refer quickly to your previous orders and you will have a record online of your previous purchases. You can also opt to receive news and offers.
Once you have registered an account, you will have access to it by log-in details of your choice. It is important that you ensure the secrecy of your log-in as we cannot accept any responsibility for misuse of your account. If you suspect your account has been misused you should contact us.
ON LINE SECURITY
We use an internet server who supports secure socket layer (SSL) encryption for online transactions. This is a major protection against rare 'hacker' fraud with all data transfer between you and our web shop powerfully encrypted. When you proceed to the checkout page, you will see a padlock symbol at the bottom or top of your screen, indicating that encryption is in place, and the web address in your browser will commence with 'https', also confirming security.
If you don't want to use online purchase despite these assurances, please use the 'Order offline' link on the left.

Your card account is not debited until your order is despatched. So if we are unable to supply any item on your order, we will attempt to inform you by telephone and offer a substitute if available. Failing this we will email you.
All orders received during the morning are normally processed and mailed on the same day as received (Monday to Friday), stock levels permitting. Over the Christmas and New Year holiday period, same day despatch may not be possible.
DELIVERY is by Royal Mail Parcel Force, or first class letter if size of package permits. Parcel Force delivery within the UK is 48 hours. In the event of non-delivery, email us, or fax or telephone to the numbers at the end of this page between 9am and 5pm Mondays to Fridays.
COMPLAINTS & CANCELLATION
Consumer Protection (Distance Selling) Regulations 2000.
These Regulations give the consumer the right by law to a 7 day 'cooling-off period' during which you can change your mind about buying once you have seen the goods.
In practice this means that you have 7 days after receipt of the goods to return them at your own expense and get a full refund of the cost of the goods. You must notify the seller within 7 days of receipt in writing, by letter, fax or email (telephone is not enough) of your intention to return goods and they must be returned in good saleable condition.
Faulty or Damaged Goods, Delivery Delays and supply errors
In the event of any goods supplied being faulty or arriving in a damaged condition, or errors in processing orders, or delays in delivery, please email us, or telephone at the times quoted below. You have 28 days from receipt of goods to contact us regarding any damaged or faulty items. All complaints will be dealt with immediately and any remedial action taken will be fully explained by phone or email on the same day if possible.
Faulty or damaged goods will be replaced or a refund made (including the cost of any return postage), at our discretion. In the event of the wrong goods being supplied in error, we will refund the cost of returning them to us. In such cases, please contact us by phone or email before returning goods, as we may be able to arrange collection.
This does not affect your statutory rights as a consumer.
