Description

The Caledonian pinewoods of the Mar Lodge Estate in the Cairngorms are one of the great ecological treasures of Scotland. The Scots Pines have existed here for over 8,000 years (though no single tree is that old - the oldest recorded on the Estate dates back a mere 200 years).

Alfred's picture shows a battered stand of Scots Pines at the foot of one of the many glens on the Estate, with, in the middle distance, a herd of red deer wending its way towards the head of the glen.
