Description

Watendlath, east of Borrowdale, sprang into fame thanks to the Herries Chronicles written by Sir Hugh Walpole. Here, William has depicted the farms and trees of the hamlet on a wonderfully calm spring afternoon, reflected peacefully in the quiet waters of the tarn. Also mirrored in the water’s surface is a shepherd with his dog approaching Watendlath’s packhorse bridge
