Description
Dove Cottage was the home of the poet William Wordsworth and his sister Dorothy, a noted diarist, from December 1799 to May 1808. Originally a public house, known as the 'Dove and Olive Branch', it first opened as a museum to Wordsworth in 1891. In many ways it has become a shrine to the Romantic poets, their influence on the public perception of nature, and their effect on the international significance of the Lake District itself.
William's picture of the Cottage shows it freshly whitewashed, sparkling against the grey and green stones and slates of the surrounding houses and barns.
