Description
The head of Wastwater often attracts wild weather blowing in from the west. This view of the dalehead features a ghostly Great Gable to the right, its crags and screes a pale grey under a dramatically cloud-rushed sky. However, this picture is dominated by Yewbarrow, the huge dark peak to the left, wonderfully off-set by the bright sunlit rocks of the western shore of the lake below it.
This area he would come back to later, when he painted his exquisitely calm 'Clear Evening Wastwater'.
