“Its attractions are the soft sylvan character of the scenery immediately surrounding it, and the fine view it commands of the fells to the west and north, from the Coniston Old Man to the Red Screes” [M. J. B. Baddeley – English Lakes, p63]
All of the Autumnal colours are depicted throughout this raised viewpoint, painted from the grassy slopes beside a curved stone wall above Esthwaite Water. The expanse of grass appears to be fading into a clear transparency when contrasted next to all the burnt sienna tones upon the trees.
