Description
Ophelia’s mother, the society animal painter Winifred Joan Ophelia Gordon Bell, often travelled up to Windermere from London with the young Ophelia to stay with her sisters, who had a house at Heathwaite; and she would often paint the horses and foals which could be seen in the fields above the town. This tiny four inch high figure of a young foal is a three-dimensional counterpart to the sort of watercolour paintings Winifred produced.
