Description
“On the day when I made this painting I had walked up from the lead mines, crossing the Glenridding Beck by a weir below the buildings, then crossing Red Tarn Beck near a sheepfold and following its left bank to the tarn. The October midday sun was shining across the great mass of Helvellyn, picking out in golden profiles a few crags here and there, but leaving most of this great wall of rock in smoky blue-grey shadow”
