Ullswater – Greeting Card

“On a still day, with clouds about, the lake mirrors the northern sky. In contrast are the strong mountain forms, the headland of Silver Point and the milky-blue depths, often sliced across with light breezes according to their strength, catching the light of the sky at different levels in an ever changing variety of blues and greys and silver” [WHC]

This viewpoint is near to a place called “Seldom Seen”, where one can look over to Silver Point and Place Fell across on the eastern shore of the lake. Ullswater is composed of three ‘reaches’ where the lake changes its characteristics entirely, this painting shows us the change of angle in the first (tame) reach, with the second (picturesque) and third (grand) stretching into the distance.
