Description

Above the deep pools by Ulpha Bridge the River Duddon flows through ancient woodland, with low cataracts hurrying the water along through its rocky bed.  Alfred has captured a moment in early Spring here, when the birches have yet to grow their new leaves, but the woodland floor is carpeted with hundreds of daffodils. Two women are gathering the flowers on a misty morning, with clouds swirling over Caw and Grey Friar in the distance.
