Description

This wonderful picture, taken from one of William's sketchbooks, likely shows the outfall from Blea Water, below the summit of High Street in the Eastern Fells of the Lake District. The steep Long Stile ridge running directly to the summit of the mountain is in the background. William's treatment of the blaze of sun on the moorland grass above the water contrasts vividly with the sombre blues and greys of the cloud-shadowed fellside beyond.
