Painted on an April morning from a viewpoint near Stybarrow Crag, looking across the lake to Silver Point, with Place Fell beyond. An illustration from his book, 'The Lakes', William wrote this about Ullswater:
"Its rocky headlands plunging into clear water; its shingly bays; its shoreline of wild flowers growing among the gnarled roots of birch and hazel, oak, ash and alder; its little islands full of light; all this has taken at least ten thousand years to create." (WHC, 'The Lakes')
